Opencast to Join Apereo Foundation - Request for Feedback

From Ian Dolphin:

I am pleased to inform members of the Apereo community that the Opencast Board have voted unanimously to propose that their community join our incubation process. The proposal will be subject to Opencast community discussion and feedback, concluding on December 20th.

If you're not familiar with the Opencast community, it is a collaboration of individuals, higher education institutions and organizations working together to explore, develop, define and document best practices and technologies for management of audiovisual content in academia. More information can be found on the Opencast website - opencast.org.

Apereo was founded around principles of openness, a recognition of diversity, and a focus on supporting the delivery of the academic mission. The Opencast proposal is clear evidence that those principles have a resonance outside the organisations that initially formed Apereo. Sharing a common umbrella will bring value to both communities. That value will be realised in part by more effectively sharing common infrastructure, services and foundation level resources. Rather more significantly, it will be realised by adding to the pool of experience we all draw on. Opencast brings experience of teaching and learning, of governance, of technology, and of community organisation - considerably enriching our opportunities for shared understanding.

If others at your institution or other organisation are involved in the Opencast community, I would encourage you to engage them in conversation in coming weeks. Explore and surface issues which arise from those conversations. Let's start as we mean to proceed.
