Sakai 20 Launched

Sakai announces the release of Sakai 20, which significantly improves functionality and user experience. Sakai is the LMS that provides the best learning outcomes for students according to independent survey research (MISO Survey, 2018).  As a truly open solution built entirely by its close-knit user community, Sakai 20 owes many of its improvements to extensive feedback from faculty and student partners.

Sakai 20 includes CLOUD STORAGE INTEGRATIONS, which enable university faculty to find documents easily in Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. This cloud integration helps fulfill Sakai’s goal of making Sakai easier to use for faculty. Other improvements that make Sakai easier to use include improvements to GRADING that allow faculty to easily view assignments and provide feedback. Sakai 20 also eases GROUP COLLABORATION in large classes and enables more seamless learning content creation.

Dr. Charles Severance, chair of Sakai’s management committee, says, “Sakai has always utilized its open source community to understand faculty needs and sought to improve faculty experience in online and in-person learning and teaching. Sakai 20 leverages its entire user community to create a more innovative and effective LMS than ever before. I am confident that faculty and students will see noticeable improvements in teaching and learning.”

“Sakai 20 includes a number of technological improvements that make online and in-person teaching and learning easier for faculty and students alike. Sakai continues to be the LMS that provides the best learning outcomes for higher education. Longsight is proud of our contributions to Sakai 20 and is pleased to be part of this vibrant community,” notes Sam Ottenhoff, President and CTO of Longsight Inc.

Sakai 20’s new functionality includes improvements in CLOUD STORAGE INTEGRATION, providing improvements to students and faculty. It also improves GRADING workflow, allowing faculty to grade and give feedback within the browser itself. Sakai 20 provides a new DATE MANAGER that makes syllabus creation easier. Additionally, Sakai 20 provides a GROUPS WIZARD, making it easier for group creation in large courses.
