Xerte v3.8

New Page Types
The new Text Correction page presents students with a piece of text containing errors that must be corrected. The activity is only marked as correct if the answer given by the student exactly matches the correct answer.
An alternative to this page, also available in earlier versions of Xerte, is the Modify Exercise page. This page allows students to correct a piece of text but does not mark their answer as correct or incorrect - it simply presents one possible example of how the text could be corrected when submitted.
Add sub-templates and learning designs
From version 3.8 onwards it is possible to add sub-templates or learning designs via the management area. When you have created a learning object that you want to use as a template or learning design, (for use when creating new learning objects), you can now add it via the management area (or have it added by whoever has access) and then you and other users can choose from any pre-loaded sub-templates when creating new projects.
This is a powerful feature for creating and sharing a variety of pre-populated templates and tried and tested learning designs and is now fully implemented via the central templates part of the management area.
It's now also possible to add sub-templates for each of the main project templates e.g. Bootstrap, Decision and Xerte Online Toolkit templates. So for each project template users will be able to choose to start with the default empty templates (as has always been the case) or to start from any of the sub-templates previously added via management.
In the screenshots below we give an example of what this looks like on the management page and in the workspace and also what changes when the editor window opens and what you see when you preview/play the new project.
NB. If you are not an administrator of your Xerte installation and would like to upload and share your sub-template(s) then contact your administrator.
Adaptive content page
Xerte Online Toolkit version X introduced the adaptive content page. With this page you can, in addition to comparing and collecting results (without having to program), also differentiate, personalise and adaptively learn to develop with Xerte. This makes the adaptive content page a very powerful solution.
A prerequisite for using the adaptive content page is that a Learning Record Store (LRS) or a Learning Record Warehouse (LRW) is linked to your Xerte installation. If you want to use the page for a specific group, you must also be able to use LTI or another similar mechanism with which the user can be identified. Ask your system administrator about the options.
With the required technologies in place you can collect and display results from other xerte pages (also from different learning objects) in a graphical representation and then attach automatic actions to those results. For example with score X you go to object Y or with choice X you can go to learning object Z. At the moment you can use the adaptive content page with most of the interactive pages where a score is given.
Below we have included some examples of what you can do with the Adaptive Content Page but there are many more.
The Adaptive Content page has been moved from the category Interactivity to the category xAPI to make it clearer exactly which pages require xAPI to work.
