CFP Open: SCaLE 2027
SCALE returns to Pasadena April 1–4, 2027—and the Call for Proposals is now open!
The Apereo Foundation is encouraging members of our community to submit proposals for the Open Source in Higher Education track at SCALE 2027.
SCALE—the Southern California Linux Expo—is North America's largest community-run open source conference, bringing together developers, technologists, educators, community leaders, and open source enthusiasts from around the world. The 2027 conference will return to the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California, April 1–4.
Help Bring Higher Education to the Open Source Conversation
Higher education has an important role to play in the broader open source ecosystem, and SCALE is an opportunity to share the experiences, challenges, and innovations happening across our community.
We'd love to see proposals from across the Apereo ecosystem. You don't need to be a professional conference speaker or have a polished success story. Some of the most useful conversations begin with lessons learned, problems still being solved, or an invitation for others to collaborate. Highly technical proposals are strongly encouraged!
Potential topics might include:
- Open source projects and implementations in higher education
- Open source infrastructure for teaching, learning, research, libraries, and administration
- Student and faculty participation in open source
- Accessibility, interoperability, privacy, and open standards
- AI and emerging technologies through an open source lens
- Lessons learned—the successes and the things you would do differently
If your work can help higher education institutions better understand, adopt, contribute to, or sustain open source, we want to hear your story.
Important CFP Dates
- August 1, 2026: Call for Proposals opens
- November 1, 2026: Submission deadline
- December 1, 2026: Acceptance notifications begin
- April 1, 2027: SCALE 2027 begins
The Apereo community has a lot of knowledge worth sharing. SCALE gives us an opportunity to bring those experiences into a much larger open source conversation—and to learn from the people and communities working on similar challenges outside higher education.
