Sam Lee Pan worked at the University of Cape Town (Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching) from 2014 to 2023, starting as a Senior Learning Technologies Consultant and moving into her role as Learning Technologies Operations Manager. She is also served as Acting Learning Technologies Co-ordinator for the cluster during emergency remote teaching in the pandemic (Jan - Sept 2020). Her team maintained and supported the learning management systems, Vula (Sakai-based) and Amathuba (Brightspace), lecture recording system (Opencast-based) and various other educational technologies, including piloting a range of Apereo projects (e.g. Xerte, OnTask, OAE). Adopting the Tsugi framework was also vital in some of the custom LTI tool used in production.
Sam has a diverse background, having completed a Masters in Environmental and Geographical Science, and worked in the field of Geographical Information Systems. Her passion has always been open source; she has previous experience working with FOSS GIS and Open Educational Resources. She feels that collaboration is vital for adaptation and growth. She is also passionate about user support and enabling those to use the tools available to them. Having completed a PG Dip in EdTech after her Masters, she seeks to understand the power of technology in education. She also works closely with the developer and learning designer teams to move towards the goals of improving teaching and learning.
