Sakai 11 update as of 29 Feb 2016.
The Sakai LMS is a robust system supporting over 4 million educational users to enhance collaborative teaching, learning and research.
What is Sakai?
Sakai provides a flexible and feature-rich environment for teaching, learning, research and other collaboration. As an open source software suite developed by its adopter community, the Sakai continually evolves in step with the needs of the students, faculty members and organizations it serves.
Colleges, universities, governments and other organizations deploy Sakai’s rich toolset to expand the possibilities for technology-enabled learning across many facets of the educational experience.
The current Sakai release is Sakai 12.6
Sakai 12 builds on the solid work of the Sakai series, featuring a more polished user interface, improved responsive design for mobile devices, a new Commons tool for social messaging, performance enhancements in Assignments and Gradebook, extended delivery of assessments for select individuals and groups in Tests & Quizzes, new menu options and content widgets in Lessons and much more!
The Sakai Community has just published a new three-year strategic roadmap to steer the ongoing, energetic, rapid innovation that is the hallmark of the Sakai LMS. This new plan builds upon Sakai’s track record of market leadership in higher education, as evidenced by independent survey research and market data. It prioritizes the development of teaching technologies that increase design flexibility for faculty and enable greater learning outcomes for students.
Sakai is an open source solution created and improved by the community using it. So, when front line IT support heard faculty grading woes, they knew they could develop and implement a better solution.
